Whether you’re a scratch golfer looking for a challenge, a weekend warrior who just wants to get outside, or, someone who’s never swung a club but wants to try, there’s a course for every level. And when you factor in what else is just down the road — Topgolf, indoor simulators, and a full-blown family fun center — the options get even better.
Here’s where to tee it up this summer:
For the Serious Round: Aurora’s Best Golf Courses
The city of Aurora operates five public courses, and they punch well above their weight. CommonGround Golf Course is the crown jewel — designed by renowned architect Tom Doak for the Colorado Golf Association, it’s nationally recognized and open to the public. If you want a course that challenges you and looks great doing it, start here.
Saddle Rock Golf Course sits in Southeast Aurora and is one of the closest courses to Overland Ranch — a championship-style layout with wide fairways and great mountain views on a clear day. Murphy Creek Golf Course brings a Scottish links-style design to the Front Range, with open terrain and the kind of wind that keeps things interesting. Both are well-maintained, well-priced, and easy to get a tee time on.
For a more relaxed round, Heather Ridge Golf Club was private for 30 years before going public in 2010 — and it still plays like a private club. Some of the best greens in the state and one of the best values in the Denver metro.
For those drawn to the private club experience, Blackstone Country Club is the closest course to Overland Ranch. With championship golf and exceptional facilities, it’s the kind of setting that makes a round feel like extra special.
Short on Time: Springhill Golf Course
Not every weekend calls for a full 18. Springhill Golf Course is Aurora’s executive course — a local secret with ten par-3s, six par-4s, and two par-5s that plays fast, stays uncrowded, and is genuinely fun for all skill levels. Walkers love it. Beginners love it. Scratch golfers use it to sharpen their short game. It’s the course to play when you want to be home for dinner.
Work on Your Game: The Swing Bays
If your weekend goal is improvement, The Swing Bays in Parker is worth knowing about. Founded by PGA professional Dustin Miller, it’s a serious indoor training facility with six TrackMan simulator bays, PGA instruction, TPI-certified fitness programs, and expert club fitting. This isn’t a social simulator bar — it’s where golfers go when they actually want to get better. Book a lesson, get a fitting, and spend an hour or two on a simulator that tells you exactly what your swing is doing. You’ll play your next round so much more informed.
The Social Round: Topgolf Centennial & Boondocks Mini Golf
For a group outing, a date night, or an afternoon where the golf is secondary to the fun, Topgolf Centennial delivers. Climate-controlled hitting bays, HDTVs, a full sports bar and restaurant, and the kind of format where it genuinely doesn’t matter if you’ve never held a club. Everyone scores. Everyone has fun. It’s about 20 minutes from Overland Ranch and worth every minute of the drive.
When the kids need to be part of the plan, Boondocks Food & Fun in Parker is the answer. Two outdoor 18-hole mini golf courses with waterfalls, caves, bridges, and themed obstacles — plus go-karts, bumper boats, laser tag, bowling, a ropes course, an arcade, and a full restaurant and bar for the grown-ups. Even the most reluctant golfer in the family will find something to love.
