PLANE SPOTTING FOR KIDS

Let your child’s curiosity take flight and join the Wings Over the Rockies’ Exploration of Flight to explore the amazing world of airplanes! Join CJRO Artistic Director Drew Zaremba and jazz trumpeter Gabriel Mervine for a lively conversation with live music woven throughout.
Gabriel Mervine is an accomplished Denver-based jazz trumpeter and composer celebrated for his distinctive sound, masterful improvisation, and dynamic stage presence. Mervine has shared the stage with a remarkable array of artists across genres—including Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, Griz, and The Who as well as large ensemble work with the Colorado Symphony and Boulder Philharmonic. His freelance career has spanned everything from Mariachi to Mahler and he is often featured with the CJRO big band.

STOMP

STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans. As USA Today says, “STOMP finds beautiful noises in the strangest places.” See what all the noise is about.

Reading and understanding animal tracks was an important part of life for all those living in Colorado. From the Hinono’ei (or Arapaho), Tsistsistas (or Cheyenne), and Nuche (or Ute) peoples to the Euro-American settlers, people from all walks of life needed to identify and interpret animal tracks to hunt, trap, and keep themselves safe. Practice making and reading animal tracks at Four Mile this November. Spend time inside making tracks and time outside documenting the tracks you find in the park. This activity is available throughout this month, but November 21 is the SFCD Free Day!
